LEARN OF ME (2)
Text:
Matthew 11:29 “...learn of me...”
INTRODUCTION
Only
bastards negate his or her family resemblance. In other words, he or she does
look or behave like others. A wolf amongst sheep is a bastard; in the same
vein, a believer amongst unbelievers is a bastard. However, a believer can be a
bastard amongst believers if he or she doesn’t reflect proofs which make for
believers. That is why I am taking my time by the help of the Holy Spirit to
write a second part to the topic “learn of me”.
Hence,
the attributes of Christ to be emulated, acquired as skill and learnt are
numerous but like we established in the first part of this teaching, love is
the fulfilment of the law, Galatians 5:14 reads;
“For
all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself”
Love
en-capsules all that you should learn of Him. However, permit me to make
mention of two more qualities we should strive learn of Him. Scripture
admonishes that there is nothing bad in coveting the best gifts.
D. Peaceful
When
I personally study Christ’s approach to matters that will naturally throw us
off balance, I marvel. In Mark 4:35-41, He instructed that Himself and His
disciples cross over the sea to the other side so that people there could
benefit of Him. Along the line a storm arose but He was asleep in the lower
deck of the ship, He wasn’t disturbed by the storm. His disciples tried all
they could to control it but couldn’t, scripture says they were exceedingly
fearful but when they woke Jesus up, He rubbed His heavy eyes with one hand and
stretched the other over the sea saying “Peace, be still” and there was a great
calm.
In
John 11, Lazarus His friend was said to be very sick when they sent for Him to
come and heal him. Scripture says “He waited two more day before taking off
knowing Lazarus had died”. The good news I have for somebody is that Jesus will
not only heal you, He will raise you above sickness and death. He raised
Lazarus from the dead to life after four days of being buried. He will raise
your Lazarus! He walked on the stormy sea that was troubling other and almost
sank Peter peacefully, Matthew 14:24-25.
Conclusively,
feeding the multitude in John 6 was a child’s play for Him. What am I driving
at? It is simple! Jesus approached all matters regardless of how fierce they
looked. His ease is to be emulated. He admonished severally in scriptures that
we shouldn’t worry, Philippians 4:6, Psalms 55:22; Proverbs 16:3; Matthew 6:25;
Luke 12:22; 1Peter 5:7. Because He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above
all that we can ever imagine or ask, Ephesians 3:20. Also because He knows no
such thing as “too late or dead” and finally, He is the PRINCE OF PEACE
Himself, Isaiah 9:6.
E. Authority
For
he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes, Matthew 7:29.
Isn’t this strange that even “scholars” recognize His voice as authoritative?
He wasn’t learned but spoke with the tongue of the learned. Luke 4:36b says;
“...for
with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out”
His
authority is unquestionable. He said categorically;
“...All
power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” Matthew 28:18
The
same authority He has also passed unto us on our commissioning, Luke 10:19
states;
“Behold,
I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”
However,
until this power or prowess is acknowledged it wouldn’t work. You must know you
have this power at your disposal as well as act it. If a third of the world
will recognize this truth, the world will be a better place than it is today.
In
conclusion, take your time to study the Son of God, Jesus Christ and His biography.
Take cogent notes of His the attributes, virtues and qualities He exhibited as
God on earth and as you take after Him you wouldn’t walk in darkness, John
8:12. You will finish strong and well. You will make progress like He did even
much more. Before I round off let me give an opportunity to those of you who
for one reason or the other are not in God’s good book; please say this prayer
after me “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, please forgive all my
trespasses, wash me in Your blood and give me a new beginning as I accept you
as my Lord and personal Saviour from now on, Amen” Congratulations and God
bless you.
